Long-Lost Submarine Discovered in Long Island Sound

In the Long Island Sound, a vintage submarine was found.

The submarine is thought to be the USS S-5, a submarine built by the US Navy in 1917.

Following a collision with a steamship, it sank in 1920.

The submarine is situated about 140 feet below the surface.

A group of divers from the U.S. Naval Undersea Museum made the discovery.

The submarine is regarded as a war grave, and the location will be kept undisturbed.

To protect and research the location, the Navy intends to collaborate with the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office.

The find offers a chance to learn more about the early development of submarine warfare.
