Robert Luna Sworn In as LA County Sheriff: First Latino in Over a century

The new Los Angeles County Sheriff is Robert Luna.

Since more than a century ago, Luna is the first Latino to occupy the job.

He had previously been Long Beach's police chief.

Luna has worked in police enforcement for more than 30 years.

In his new position, he stressed his dedication to openness and responsibility.

In addition, Luna promised to address the county's homelessness and mental health problems.

Both community members and municipal officials were present during the event.

The Sheriff's Department has come under fire for its use of force and the way it treats prisoners at the time of Luna's appointment.
